Four Generations of Growth

Our Roots

While the other kids were focused on paper routes and lemonade stands, Carl and Ken Dobler were sharecropping in the lot next door. They grew strawberries, tomatoes, and potatoes, which earned them their first profits. By the time the brothers were in high school and middle school, they’d already cut their teeth as farmers. Their father, Carl Sr., helped them make it official by purchasing 5 acres of land. Carl Dobler & Sons was born.

The Doblers’ knack for innovation has continued to guide their approach to farming for 75 years. When their chosen crops were no longer profitable, they went back to the drawing board. Their new offerings included cabbage—earning them the moniker, “The Cabbage Kings of the West” head lettuce, sweet bell peppers, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, leafy greens, and more. Field Fresh Farms was formed in 2005 to focus on the greens.

Founders

More than 20 years later, our farm now grows, processes, packs, and ships an array of conventional and organic products, including arugula, romaine hearts, spinach, and more. Backed by wealth of experience that has emerged over four generations, we’re empowered to continue to do things differently.

We invest in the land that feeds us, and we make food safety our highest priority. There’s a reason we’ve been working with the same people forever. They believe in our mission, and we believe in them. Our farm continues to transform to accommodate the food service and retail markets, but one thing remains: A longstanding reputation of hard work, determination, and delivering sustainably-grown, superior-quality fresh produce that our customers have relied on for 75 years.
